Database Configuration File; new method to open a database

A new method has been added to aid opening SQL Server databases.

The default mode for opening a SQL Server database is using a Windows Trusted Connection. As an alternative you can open the database in SQL Server Authentication mode, but this requires extra steps when logging into finPOWER Connect. When the Login form is displayed, the User can click on the "Advanced" link and check either "Using the User Id and Password entered above" or "Using the following Credentials".

To simplify this step there is now a special "Database Configuration File" that can be used to open a database. This configuration file includes information about the Server, Database and Login Credentials.

To use, you must first create a "Database Configuration File". To do this, from the Tools menu point to Database and click "Database Configuration File Builder" and follow the steps to create the file. Note, the password entered is encrypted in the file.

There are two ways to use the "Database Configuration File":

  1. From the File Menu click "Open Database Configuration File".
  2. Use a command line parameter "/sqlconfig FileName".
