Williams Harvey Corporate Duathlon 2010
Twice a year, the staff of Intersoft Systems Ltd unleash their inner athlete and take part in a charity sporting event. This October we out did ourselves by cobbling together five teams for the Williams Harvey Corporate Duathlon in support of the local branch of Cystic Fibrosis; a fantastic turnout from a staff of 13, bolstered by a couple of partners.
The serious competitors amongst us battled manfully into the strong Nor’wester, with now four-time champions the Intersoft Bolters (aka Scott and Chris) retaining their title, closely followed by the newly formed team Intersoft VBAs (Paul T and Brad) coming in eight minutes later in an extremely creditable fifth place overall.
And then there were those of us taking things at a more leisurely pace, which turned out to be a much more sensible idea because the wind dropped mid-race and the biking and running/walking became a lot easier later in the day. The Intersoft Anti-Geeks (Denise, Mace and Kirstin) made the most of that and came in a fantastic fifth of the walking teams, even beating some of the running teams home.
Special mention should go to the social running team Intersoft Do Loops (Paul H, John and Dave) who got all pirated up for the day, although the prize for best dressed team unquestionably deserved to go to the Intersoft Lady Bugs (Linda, Vicki and Nicola) who adorned themselves fabulously in head to toe red and black, wings, antennae and all. Those of us not trying to win the race definitely have our work cut out for next year’s dress-ups.
It’s always good to get into these events. We have a ball and any discomfort we feel during the race is quickly forgotten over a sausage and drink at the Intersoft tent afterwards. And it’s all for a couple of good causes, raising a substantial amount of money for a worthwhile charity and also keeping up our fitness levels.
