Running finPOWER Connect under 64-bit Windows with an Access database

TSB1030 | Thursday, 17 October 2013

This Technical Support Bulletin applies to 64 bit versions of Microsoft Windows.

Overview

If you are running finPOWER Connect in a 64-bit Windows environment, and attempt to open an Access database the following error message will be reported:

Failed to open Database.
Failed to initialise Database connection.
The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.

Issue

The Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Jet and the Jet ODBC driver are available in 32-bit versions only.

Solution

In a 64-bit Windows environment, you can run an application in 32-bit mode.

finPOWER Connect version 2 introduced a new shortcut to the finPOWER Connect start menu folder, "finPOWER Connect (32-bit)". You should run this shortcut to open an Access database when running a 64-bit version of Windows.

In earlier versions of finPOWER Connect please run finPOWERConnectTo32bit.bat to change the application to 32-bit mode. This is located in the installation folder, normally "C:\Program Files (x86)\Intersoft\finPOWERConnect".

  • You should ensure finPOWER Connect is not open when running this batch file.
  • You may need to run the batch file with Administrator rights.
    • Locate the 'CorFlags.exe" file in the same folder, right click it and click Properties.
    • Under the "Compatibility" tab, Privilege Level block, check "Run this program as an administrator".
    • Alternatively, in the same tab, Compatibility mode block, check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)".
  • If this does not correct the issue please contact your Dealer.

If you no longer need to open an Access database in finPOWER Connect it is strongly recommended you run finPOWER Connect in 64-bit mode.

To return to using finPOWER Connect in 64-bit mode run finPOWERConnectTo64bit.bat, which is located in the installation folder.
