Progressive Web Applications (PWA)

Progressive Web Applications or PWAs are Web applications (such as finPOWER Connect Cloud and Portals) that are packaged to look and work like native apps (e.g., a Windows Application or an iPhone or Android App).

Our online demo lets you check out the latest build of finPOWER Connect Cloud.

NOTE: This is regularly updated to show new features and may not match screenshots shown in this article.

Our online Client Connect Example Portal demonstrates how the Portals module can be used to create a way for clients to access information about their accounts.

Apps Without an App Store

One of the major advantages of PWAs is that they are not required to be published in an App Store such as the Apple App Store or the Google Play store.

This has many advantages, e.g.:

  • Instantly available with no App Store associated costs
  • No need to publish updates or for users to install updates; the App is always up-to-date
  • No need to get the App approved by an App Store (or multiple App Stores)

What Users See

When finPOWER Connect Cloud or a Portal have PWA support enabled, accessing them from a compatible browser or device prompts the user to install to the desktop, e.g.:

Created from paste into Topic content

The installation varies between browsers and platforms, e.g., the iPhone uses the short PWA name of "finPOWER" rather than "finPOWER Connect":

Once installed, the user sees a more traditional style App with no web browser interface, e.g.:

finPOWER Connect Cloud and Portal Configuration

Both the finPOWER Connect Cloud Configuration and the Portals forms have a "PWA" page to enable and configure PWA, e.g.:
