HTML Widgets and Portals; Address Lookups now support Google's "Places API (New)"
Address lookups, e.g., in the New Individual Client HTML Widget rely on Google Maps.
Prior to this release, the implementation used was what Google now refers to as "Places API (Legacy)".
Unfortunately, any Google developer accounts created after a certain date do not have access to this API, hence the address lookup functionality would not work.
We now support the "Places API (New)".
This must be configured under the same Google developer console as the previous API.
Once enabled, Global Settings, Clients, Addressing will need to be updated to use:
- Google API: Places API (New)
- Browser Key: the key obtained from the Google developer console
Due to limitations of the User Interface for this new API, the way address searching is presented has changed:
Places API (Legacy)
The User starts typing directly into the "Street Address" field and matches are shown as they type.
Places API (New)
A new Google Search field appears above the "Street Address" field and presents address matches as the User types.
Currently, Google does not allow this search field to be styled so its appearance is completely different to other HTML Widget fields.
