Logs; allow multiple selection of Document Files

A new option for Logs has been added to allow the selection of multiple Document Files for a new Log.

  1. You must be licensed for the Document Manager Add-On.
  2. Only works for New Logs.
  3. Creates multiple Logs linked back to the first or "main" Log.

Each Log is linked back to the first or "main" Log so that you can see that they were added at the same time. If the "main" Log does not have a parent log this is as simple as the Parent/ Child or threaded conversation link. Otherwise, you can use the Extended information on the log, ExtendedType = "MultiDocumentChild" and ExtendedData = Log Pk of the "main" Log. Child Logs will have a subject of the Filename (excluding extension).

To activate you must change settings under Global Settings, Document Manager group, General page. Uncheck "Allow any text to be entered in a Log's Document File Name?" and check "Allow Users to select multiple Document Files on a new Log?".

Note, by default "Allow any text to be entered in a Log's Document File Name?" is checked which maintains backwards compatibility. This means that any text, whether a proper file name or not can be entered in a Log's Document File Name field. If this setting is checked you cannot check the "Allow Users to select multiple Document Files on a new Log?" option.

Once checked, on Log forms, Document page, the File Name field allows multiple File Names to be entered or selected (via the Browse button). It would be normal to use the Browse button to select multiple files, however you can type file names, so long as you correctly format them. Each filename should be enclosed in double quotes and separated by a space.

When adding a Workflow Log, either via a Workflow Item or via the "Workflow Actions" wizard, multiple file names can also be entered. Any Logs created in this way will be linked to the Workflow and Workflow Item.
