SMS Messages; TxtStream services updated to allow 459 characters and SMS validation enhanced

The TxtStream SMS services have been updated to allow 459 characters.

The limit for an individual SMS message is 160 characters but many providers allow longer messages which are sent in blocks of 160 characters and then combined into a single message. This is dependent on both the telecommunications provider and the software on the recipients phone. TxtStream charges for each 'block' sent.

Previously, a limit of 160 characters was enforced in certain places within finPOWER Connect. This limit has been raised to 459 characters but a warning will be given when the 160 character limit has been exceeded.

A warning will be given as an icon below the textbox into which the message is being typed and as a full warning message on the SMS preview page of wizards from which SMS messages can be sent and the message will not be able to be sent if it exceeds the maximum length (459 characters).

The following forms have been updated:

  • Create Document wizard (e.g., Send Document from the Accounts form)
  • Execute Document (e.g., an Account Document via the Report Explorer)
    • SMS results are now pre-validate and a warning message shown in the grid the row shown with strike through if the message cannot be sent, i.e., it exceeds 459 characters.
  • SMS Message wizard (Process, Send SMS Message)
  • Workflow Actions wizard (from the Task Manager form)
